June

This is the time when summer bulbs, such as dahlias and begonias, can suddenly experience a growth spurt. A little early attention can fool them into producing more flowers throughout the summer. If you have large-flowering dahlias, remove the top part of the flower stem, making the plant sturdier and more compact. The first begonia buds may also be removed. The plant will bloom bigger and brighter, so don’t sweat the initial loss!
